Dublin Ferry Port
Ferries arrive in Dublin's ferry port from France and the United Kingdom, with the route to Holyhead in Wales being the busiest connection.
Once you’ve sailed past Dublin’s two tall chimneys, you’ll know you’re almost there! The good news is that the ferries dock quite close to the city centre. It’s only about 3.5 miles!
Arrival in Dublin
Upon arrival, passengers and vehicles are disembarked from the ferry. This process may take some time, particularly for those among the last to leave the vessel. Once ashore, a range of transport options is available, including taxis, buses, and car rental services. Travellers arriving with their own vehicles have direct access to Dublin’s main road network.
For car travellers
The ferry terminal is located close to Dublin city centre. If your destination is downtown, the drive usually takes around 15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Leaving Dublin by car
When departing from the port, motorists can take the M50 motorway towards Dublin Airport. A toll tunnel on this route connects directly to the M1 ring road, allowing drivers to bypass city traffic and save time. This route is particularly suitable for travellers heading north or east.
For destinations south of Dublin, it may be preferable to drive through the city to connect with the N11 or M11 routes. Please note that traffic within central Dublin can be heavy during peak hours.
Public transport from Dublin ferry port
Dublin's port does not have an adjacent train station, so travellers rely on either taxi services or buses for transportation.
- Buses from the terminal for Irish Ferries arrivals
From Ferry Terminal 1 (Irish Ferries), Bus 53 operates regularly to Dublin city centre. The route also stops at Connolly Station, providing easy connections to local and national rail services.
- Buses from the terminal for Stena Line arrivals
For foot passengers arriving on Stena Line ferries, the easiest option is the dedicated Stena Line bus service, which can be booked simultaneously with your ferry tickets.

Please note that Bus 53 does not serve Ferry Terminal 2 (Stena Line). However, it is possible to walk between Terminals 1 and 2 in approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
